Brief History

1963 The College of Law with three departments, Law, Economics, and Business Management, was established upon re-establishment of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan.
1969 The College of Management became independent from the College of Law, which was composed of the Department of Law and the newly established Department of Social Sciences.
1972 A structural reform allowed the Department of Economics to move back to the College of Law. The Department of Economics was established under the School of Continuing Education.
1974 The Department of Law was divided into two divisions: Law and Juridical Law.
1977 The Department of Sociology was divided into two divisions: Sociology and Social Work.
1979 The division of Financial Law was added to the Department of Law.
1980 The Master’s Program of Law was instituted.
1981 The two divisions in the Department of Sociology became two independent departments.
1988 The Master’s Program of Religious Studies was instituted.
1990 The Doctoral Program of Law was established.
1992 The Master’s Program of Economics and the Department of Religious Studies were added to the College.
1993 The Chinese Socio-Cultural Research Center, an affiliated research institute, was established.
1994 The Division of Financial Law became an independent Department, and was renamed Department of Financial Law. The department of Religious Studies was divided into department of Religious Studies, which offers Bachelor’s degree, and Master’s Program of Religious Studies.
1998 The Master’s Program of Social Work was implemented.
2000 The Master’s Program of Financial Law was implemented.
2001 Service Center for Aborigines was founded.
2002 The In-Service Master’s Program of Religious Studies was implemented. The John Paul II Peace Institute became affiliated with the College of Law.
2003 The College of Sociology became independent of the College of Law; the former was composed of the departments of Economics, Sociology, Social Work, Religious Studies, and the Service Center for Aborigines; while the latter of law related departments and the John Paul II Peace Institute. The Non-Profit Organization Management Program was established. The PhD Program in Religious Studies was implemented.
2004 The Master’s Program in Sociology was implemented.
2007 The Chinese Socio-Cultural Research Center closed after its interim mission was accomplished.
2009 The International Partnership Center was established, and the Service Center for Aborigines was renamed the Education Center for Aborigines
2010 The Department of Religious Studies was established under the School of Continuing Education.
2011 The Department of Psychology became affiliated with the College of Social Science. In-Service Master Program for Non-Profit Organization Management was established. Bachelor’s Program in Catholic Studies was established.
2012 Education Center for Aborigines was renamed Social Development Studio for Aborigines.
2018 Communication, negotiation, and mediation for medical dispute Program was established.
2019 Life education Program was established.
